Wilma Bolton, author of the two best selling local history books for this area, Black Faces and Tackety Boots / True Stories from the Coal Mines of Lanarkshire and Pit Props and Ponies / True Stories from the Coal Mines of Lanarkshire has joined forces with Blantyre’s Ain Website.
She has given us articles relating to old time Blantyre families which she copied from the Hamilton Advertisers while she was doing research for her books on the local coal miners and mining families.
Having previously supplied the information to the Blantyre Heritage Group the articles (mainly Golden / Diamond wedding anniversaries and obituaries etc., were already available for the public to browse on their wonderful Local History discs available at Hamilton Town House Reference Library and Blantyre Library.
However, exiles looking for information on their family history were unable to access these discs and being an avid family historian with Blantyre roots going back to 1851, Wilma feels that Blantyre’s Ain Website is the ideal way to take the descendents of these families back through the mists of time and rediscover forgotten family history.
So enjoy the archives and learn a bit more about your heritage and the Blantyre Folk who helped shape it...
