Blantyre Folk
Charles Forrest
1921
THE LATE MR CHARLES FORREST. At the ripe old age of 78 years there has just passed away Mr Charles Forrest of Low Blantyre Farm. He was amongst the oldest of our residents and was born in Blantyre .
He could recall his early school days when he attended a “gie wee schule” at Hunthill, the teacher of which was an old woman and the scholars paid 1d per week.
As a young man he was associated with his brother, and they carried out a large carting business under the designation of C. & A. Forrest, and did all the carting for the dye works, and old Blantyre Mills.
Mr Forrest was a typical example of the hardy Scottish farmer, and before his illness set in a year age he was good company, and no one knew old Blantyre better than he did. He was always at his best when relating experiences regarding the early life of Blantyre .
