David Moffat
Death of a Well Known Bandsman
The death of Mr David Moffat, 82 John Street Blantyre, occurred at his home in the early hours of Monday morning.
He was a miner and had been employed for many years at the Priory Colliery.
It was in musical circles that Mr Moffat was best known, and his record goes back for well over thirty years.
As a member of the Blantyre Band he was the master of many instruments, but it can be said of him that he excelled with the trombone and bass E flat. In the band’s competitions common years ago, members of the competing bands used to make the comment “Moffat is on the trombone or the Base E flat, so we know what we are up against.”
Mr Moffat is survived by his widow, and there are two sons on active service.
