DELUSIVE DREAMS (INSOMNIA)
I lie awake all through the night
In anticipation of come what might
The drop of snow that has not fell
Contemplating if I’ll go to hell
I count some sheep in abundant numbers
In a tiresome hope to get some slumber
With T. V. on and wide awake
The tireless groan it does make
My thoughts are cast to those who are dead
I close my eyes they are in my head
Past, present and future, there to be seen
For my eyes only, what does this mean?
Digits change on the clock on the wall
For every hour I see them all
Drifting off whenever I can
Catching time in never, never land
The hoot of an owl in the darkest night
With cats prowling all through the night
I hear it all and wonder why
Why can’t I just close my eyes?
