FREEDOM

Scotland's freedom that's fir me
In ma lifetime a hope tae see,
Three hunner years o' English rule
Selt doon the water; fir a haunfray o' gruel
That's how much they pied fir it
The English laugh; ya stupid git,
A stupid git is whit weve stied
Where o' where is ma nations pride.

One day Scotland will staun strang
An' right the right: undo the wrang,
Tae blooter oot aw' that pain
Tae haud oor heids up yince again,
Tae fecht like William Wallace did
An' staun our grun like he did guid.

The centuries hiv tain thir toll
On a nations spirit; on a nations soul,
The herts still strong that beats within
A prood Scottish wuman; a hivnae gave in,
Tae English rule; Thats no' fir me
Nor fir ma grandchildren tae see.

So come on Scotland at the polls
Boot oot Westminster an save oor souls.

Taken from the Declaration of Arbroath   1355

Yet if he should give up what he has begun, and agree to make us or our Kingdom subject to the King of England or the English, we should exert ourselves at once to drive him out as our enemy and a subverter of his own rights and ours, and make some other man who was well able to defend us our King; for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule.  It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with his life itself.
