Hardie Street, Blantyre

Hardie Street, which runs from Craig Street through Victoria Street and still exists today virtually unchanged.

This would have been the view of Hardie Street from Auchinraith School's main gates.

We would have cycle races at lunch time starting here with one racer turning left at Small Crescent and continuing along Morris Crescent and back up Hardie Street to the school gates. The other racer would go the opposite way, turning right at Morris Crescent and continuing along Small Crescent and back.

I always won the race because I took the Morris Crescent route as it was downhill on the way back through Small Crescent, whereas my competitor had an uphill climb going up Small Crescent.
