Blantyre Folk
Hugh Guy
1938
The death of yet another worthy old citizen falls to be recorded - Mr Hugh Guy, who passes away on Tuesday morning at his home, 220 Glasgow Road, at the ripe old age of 89 years.
Mr Guy was a native of Blantyre and was born in Barnhill district. The school he attended was conducted in a small room and kitchen house quite neat his parents home. Mr Guy had always been employed on agricultural work in Blantyre, and a decade ago he was in the service of the late Mr John Craig Bellsfield Farm, High Blantyre .
In his younger life Mr Guy was a regular competitor at the ploughing matches throughout the district, and in agricultural circles he was a kenspeckle figure. He was a great favourite with everybody in the neighbourhood and in the summertime he was a daily visitor to the public park and was the life and soul of the old veterans - all much younger than himself. He could remember many incidents relating to Blantyre when its population was about 6000. Mr Guy was a widower and is survived by a grown up family.
