The Golden Wedding
of
Mr & Mrs Robert McKechnie
1938
Mr and Mrs Robert McKechnie formally celebrated their golden wedding at their home, 200 Main Street, High Blantyre, on Wednesday night. The worthy couple, who are highly respected citizens in High Blantyre , were remembered with gifts from friends and neighbours, and they had many callers who came to wish them many happy returns of their marriage day. Mr McKechnie, who is 82 years of age, was born at Westmuir, near Parkhead, and came to Blantyre in 1878. As a miner he worked in Auchinraith Colliery (now dismantled) till about ten years ago, when he retired.
His wife, who was Miss Mary Brown, is 74 years of age. She was born at East Kilbride, and they were married in the High Blantyre Church manse by the late Rev. C.S. Turnbull. They had a family of eight children - one son and three daughters - four of whom are still alive.
The son and his married sister are now resident in Africa . Andrew is at present home on a visit to his parents but returns shortly. There are nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
