Blantyre Folk
Sudden Death of Market Gardener
Mr Robert Russell
1925
A widely known market gardener passes away suddenly on Thursday night at his residence, Wheatlandhead Farm, in the person of Mr Robert Russell, in his 53rd year. He had been in his usual health up till Tuesday, when he took ill. A native of Blantyre, he wrought for some years in the old Blantyre Dyeworks, and later he became associated with the well known vegetable firm of Messrs Thomas Russell & Company, The Bazaar, Glasgow .
For the past eight years he carried on an extensive business as a market gardener in Blantyre and succeeded in building up a large and prosperous trade connection. He leaves a widow and family of two sons and two daughters.
