The Broadway Cinema

The Broadway Cinema in Glasgow Road opened in 1939, and for a time it was feared that it would be requisitioned for the war effort. The first film it showed was 'The Dawn Patrol', starring Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone. Instead of being turned into a Bingo Hall, the Broadway was demolished and a modern two storey building for Blantyre's Housing department built on its site. The building is now the home of Blantyre Credit Union.

The last film played at the Broadway was the 'Jungle Book', according to Ian Guy Lecturer in Nursing in New Zealand.
