Blantyre

Welcome to the Blantyre Community Forum from your community representative, Anne Collie.

The aim of our group is to give the young people of Blantyre a fair chance. We want your help in finding places for local kids to hang out, we want to create safe play areas and generally improve the neighbourhood. We can't do this without the help of the community, its time to sit up and take notice and put some plans into action.

Here are details of a couple of projects already underway in Blantyre:

Next Generation

Forum member Paul Euliano is running a youth outreach project called Revival Generation, in Larkfield and Springwells. Paul is encouraging kids to get involved in sport instead of getting caught up in drugs, alcohol and violence. Paul is happy to chat if there are any problems you want to discuss. Contact Paul on 710450.

Smarter Thinking

An exciting pilot scheme has been launched in Blantyre and in all SIP high schools providing a cashless smart card for school dinners. The Web-bite Swipecard, which is just like a switch or credit card, means that all children will be able to use it to pay for meals and those receiving free meals will not need to use a ticket any longer, meaning all children will be treated the same! There are also plans to reward pupils who choose the healthy eating option by awarding points that will be redeemable for a range of services including free use of leisure facilities.
